destroy me this way
so Bike Friday at the Henry was excellent. LAKE played. theyLAKE created the perfect environment for a summer night in the scuplture gallery. big squeaks from the cabled buses on 15th. 100 bikes were valet parked. then as i was leaving i saw a few dozen more locked all around the skybridge over 15th. bike-powered blender. raffle prizes. free admission to the museum.
back when i used to live near magnuson park i used to see school busfuls of men in orange jumpsuits entering the park via 65th while i was waiting for the bus. never knew why. yesterday at the FCUL meeting i learned that all of the compact shelving for the UW Libraries’ auxillary stacks was installed by convict labor. wow.
also got good links to more info there about a certain book search project that i have been interested in.
the association of research libraries created this:
A Guide for the Perplexed: Libraries & the Google Library Project Settlement [PDF] (Nov. 13, ‘08)
A Guide for the Perplexed Part II: The Amended Google-Michigan Agreement [PDF] (June 12, ‘09)
and offered the following statement:
the perfect time to think about this again. just finished reading
by John Battelle
i also found this book at Goodwill. it was far superior to The Google Story (see here)and very well-written. it also talked more about the future of search. john battelle also writes about search on his Searchblog.
Startling about the convict labor install at UW, when was it installed and do you know who the manufacturer was? Want to avoid them in the future if we have any simliar projects.
Thanks,
Ken
Convict labor a positive outlet, usually low risk, minimum security offenders are involved.
i don’t have any additional info on the contract. must confess, my interest was entirely personal since it answered a question i had wondered about in the past.
